Writing prompts to kickstart your 2024
"And you? When will you begin your long journey into yourself?" – Rumi
I like to include some journaling prompts as part of my working process, to carve out some time to pause and evaluate.
Perhaps all journaling is essentially journaling for self-discovery. It’s a time for contemplation, to look inwards and reflect.
I like to think of journaling as a way to both capture and make sense of my thoughts as well as to plan and dream for the future.
Journaling can be especially useful to do on a more regular basis during times of change, or when things just don’t feel quite right.
Putting pen to paper can be a great way to work out what’s going on, how you feel, and what your next move might be.
It’s been through the process of journaling that I have managed to navigate some big changes recently, had somewhere to try to explain my conflicting emotions, and see those little glimmers of hope even in the midst of feeling anxious and overwhelmed.
Tracking what you are thinking and feeling in this way and taking the time to reflect on it can give you back some feeling of control; of being able to make a decision about your next move.
I always find this process, however painful it can be sometimes, often leads me to more clarity about what I want to achieve.
It’s in our own stories of change that we so often see how we can be of service to others.
It’s as we’re coming out of those dark places that we begin to believe we could help other people who are a few steps behind us.
It’s out of this discomfort we may realise what really matters.
Here are 12 questions and prompts taken from the ‘Journaling for Self-Discovery’ workbook, to help you get started.
